Here’s the second print that recieved a blue ribbon at the WPPA Fall State Convention. This image was taken during Lauren’s senior portrait session. Some of the gals here think it’s an image that could appear in a prom dress magazine…I’m not sure about that but I won’t argue either! Anyway, judge for yourself!
Blue Ribbon Winner!
•November 18, 2009 • Leave a CommentThe Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association held their annual Fall State Convention last month in Wisconsins Dells at the Chula Vista Resort. A big part of the convention is the photographic print competition and I’m happy to report that Nelson’s Photograph Studio landed three blue ribbons for photographic excellence! The judging was especially tough this year and I’m very happy with my results.
Here’s one of the images, Dominic was a senior from the class of 2009. I’ve had this image on file for awhile wanting to work on it for competiton and I’m planning on sending it off to Nationals next spring.
The image was created at the studio using a wrap-around lighting method with reflectors. The dramatic effect of this type of lighting was exactly what I was after for such a strong, athletic subject. Dominic’s eyes just grab you and keep you in the image. I titled this entry, “Bring It On”. Thanks Dominic for the inspiration!
Great Senior Portrait Idea!
•August 6, 2009 • Leave a CommentWell, I can’t take credit for the image of Brianna in the livestock trailer, she saw this online somewhere…but, it’s freakin’ awesome. There was quiet abit of post-production work done on my end so I’m claiming it as my!lol The shoe’s shot is cool too! I’m having alot of fun this year with senior portrait images for the class of 2010. I’m shooting a million images of each senior, well maybe not a million….close tho! I’ve never done such a wide variety of styles, it’s exciting and different for sure. No sitting still here!

Michelle from River Valley
•August 4, 2009 • Leave a CommentA couple of busy weeks here at Nelson’s Photography in Richland Center, Wisconsin. We’ve had quite a few class of 2010 seniors coming into the studio for their senior portraits the last two weeks and the phone has been ringing with seniors trying to schedule their appointments before schools starts, (yuck)! I think everyone has been surprized at how fast the summer went. I’m still hoping to get the blog updated more often but I wanted to share some awesome portraits of Michelle from River Valley High School. I especially liked the shots we did in the field. Enjoy!

More from Aubrey and folks!
•July 27, 2009 • Leave a CommentMan, there are so many great images from Jenny, Jeff and Aubrey. It’s hard to stop working on them, what fun! I wanted to share a couple more with you. These are very casual and cool shots. I sure wish we could have more young families in the studio! Anybody! Give me a call!

Aubrey at ONE!
•July 23, 2009 • Leave a CommentMy niece Jenny and her husband Jeff brought their daughter down to the studio for Aubrey’s one year old portraits this week. It was great to see the family here and we had a blast photographing Aubrey, she was near perfect for the entire session and we got sooooo many fun images of her in her different outfits and hats. I wanted to get this panel done right away to share with everybody online. What a terrific Mom and Dad Aubrey’s got, I’m so proud of Jenny and Jeff, they’re so blessed!

Here’s a few senior portraits that we did last week here at Nelson’s Photography Studio in Richland Center. We had a blast, as usual, with these kids and we got some images using area’s, locations and backgrouds in unique ways. In this post are Tom from Wisconsin Heights High, and Kim and Emma from River Valley.

Flowers and Prom Dress
•July 10, 2009 • Leave a Comment…not together but they do go hand in hand right? More stuff from Lauren who is one of the studio’s representitives from Richland Center. I’ve been wanting to go outside with a prom dress for more work with the high-speed flash and Lauren was up for it. Once again, something different. Of course we still do all the usual shots, traditional and contemporary but one thing you can count on us for is that we won’t be sitting still!

Getting caught-up
•July 9, 2009 • Leave a CommentWhoa, it’s been too long since my last post! June went by like a lighting bolt and here it is the end of the second week of July…why doesn’t January go this quickly? Oh well, I want to post some of the cooler stuff I’ve been up to the past few weeks. Here’s the first:

This is Ian from Richland Center. We had a great time during his session. This shot was done using high-speed off camera flash which is a new technique that we’ve been working on this summer. The look it gives you is really cool and edgy, kinda fashion/magazine. At any rate, a new look to add to our product line! Here’s another:

Taken with the same technique used with Ian, this is Dylan from Mineral Point. I really like how the skies turn-out with using high-speed flash. If you like this style or not, we got it here plus all of the other really cool, contemporary and traditional portraiture.

Rachel from Wauzeka was in the studio during the month of June and this image taken with more tradition outdoor lighting techiques. The softness of the wildflowers along with the colors make this image perfect for girls.

I photographed Molly’s older brother a couple years ago and it’s always great to see families returning to the studio. Molly’s from River Valley and I took a TON, yes that’s actually a number, of images for her. Molly fit right in here at the studio and it showed in her images. This is one of my favorite close-ups!
